Following the boom of the high-waisted shorts, yet another version of the trend has been coming to light as of late, this time in the form of what is being called the long shorts (we know, the name is ironic, and frankly we’re not surprised at the names that the fashion scene can conjure up anymore). The long shorts typically has the hem falling somewhere from the middle of the thigh to just before the knees, and most versions today are of the high-waist variety.

Here are five ways to wear long shorts care of bloggers who were quite ahead of their time.

1. Sweet and Lacy

As extreme street as the long shorts may seem, it’s actually quire easy to turn this look into a sweet one. Pick out a pleated pair of long shorts in a bright color and pair it with a lace top. Pull the look together with an embellished tan belt and a pair of chic strappy heels. If the look is still a bit too flat for you, pick out a printed clutch to make the colors in your outfit pop out.

2. Cutting Edge

We love how a simple well-cut crop top paired with long shorts can instantly create a cutting edge look. Douse the outfit with silver details (think nails, clutch and metallic toe cap heels) to scale up on the edginess. This outfit is a great day-to-night look for when you need to run from the office straight to a dinner. Slap on some red lipstick and you’re all set.

Long denim shorts may seem very daunting to those who don’t like to take risks, but it’s actually pretty easy to dress up or down. Pair the shorts with a striped tank top, pointed toe flats, and a structured oversized tote for a chic look that can take you anywhere from the grocery to a lunch out. Just slip into a blazer if you need to dress the outfit up some more. Play around for the perfect long shorts length that will emphasize your physical assets.

4. Printastic

Of course, the long shorts wouldn’t be solidified as an emerging trend if printed variations did not come out. Wear your print with a black top and go crazy with the accessories; one great thing about wearing anything printed is that it instantly opens up your outfit to more colors. If you’re not the color-wearing type, wear the printed shorts with classic black and gold elements for a more sophisticated look.

5. Pick of the Crop

Any high-waisted trend would go to waste if not paired with the crop top trend. Pick out a double breasted style to go with your long shorts, and wear a long blazer vest over it to keep the outfit looking polished. Slip into a pair of simple heels with an ankle strap to maintain the androgyny of the look. Finish with gold accessories.
