There was a time when mom jeans were considered a fashion abomination. They are unflattering to a woman’s body, and they usually make the buttocks look larger and fatter.

Also, the fit is just all over the place. Needless to say, any person under the age of 30 caught wearing mom jeans would be at the receiving end of heartless jokes.

But that changed drastically in the past few years. With the growing interest in vintage fashion and the general love for all things high-waisted, mom jeans have been reinvented and made into something a lot more wearable (not to mention fashionable!).

Now, just like Alessandra Ambrosio and Kendall Jenner, you can wear mom jeans and get away with it! Let’s pick up some style tips from some bloggers, shall we?

1. Solid-Colored Sweater

Xenia, whose fashion blog A Fashion Nation is no longer available online, has so many awesome ensembles wearing mom jeans that it’s hard to pick just one, but we managed to narrow the choices down to this classic look.

We love how she made the jeans look elegant by wearing them with understated pieces like her solid-colored sweater and by accessorizing with equally minimalist pieces (chunky chain necklace, anyone?).

2. Cherry Red Shoes

Try wearing mom jeans with a button-down top and drape a jacket over your shoulders for some serious street style vibe. Tatiana even went for cherry red shoes for an interesting pop of color. Her blog is unfortunately no longer available online.

3. Chic Floral Top

Tap into your inner vintage girl and wear your mom jeans with a floral top. Something fitted just like Lauren’s will balance out the silhouette of your jeans. Check out her great sense of style at A Little Lau.

4. Black Cropped Top

Cropped tops are also the perfect accompaniment to mom jeans. Take a cue from Uli Chan who made her jeans look urban chic with a turtleneck cropped top. Wearing this to school? Go and accessorize with a leather backpack.

5. Sleeveless White Top

Go wear your jeans with a sleeveless top, and tuck it in your pants. Have a blazer to give your jeans a more formal appeal. That’s what Beatriz from Mi Armario en Ruinas did. She capped off the chic look with nude pumps.

6. High-Waisted Women’s Jeans

Here’s a fool-proof way to wear your mom jeans — pair them with a fitted top! It will balance the silhouette and won’t make you look like you’ve added 10 pounds overnight.

Emily did exactly that with this look. She wore her high-waisted women’s jeans with a cute top and had a furry jacket at her disposal. A pair of pumps also made the look classier. Her blog, The Pink Zombie, is unfortunately no longer available online.

7. Acid-Washed Denim

It’s really nice to see that these jeans have undergone a couple of makeovers in the past few years. No longer are they just unflattering jeans made from blue or black denim; they have evolved into something that is a tad edgier and more modern.

Tess from Style Story wore a pair in acid-washed denim with ripped details. They worked seamlessly with her ’90s grunge outfit comprising a printed top, a leather jacket, and a pair of creepers.

You don’t really have to go for those old styles of mom jeans. There are slim-fit versions that are actually very flattering. Try the following from Farfetch and Nordstrom:
