Despite Miley Cyrus‘ recent controversial Twitter picture in which she thanked New York for being one of the few states to “free the nipple” (with the photo showing the 21-year-old with her shirt up and both breasts barely covered with cartoon hearts that said “Merry Christmas”), Miley decided to put on some decent clothing at the red carpet of New York’s Jingle Ball — that is, until she twerked with Santa on stage.

The singer, who recently admitted in an interview with Barbara Walters that she was afraid of being alone post-Liam, slipped into a pair of Maison Martin Margiela pants and a top from the same designer’s MM6 line, which she wore with a leather bandeau.

The French luxury fashion house has made an interesting take on the sportswear-inspired striped-trouser trend, opting to use paint for the stripe with an ombre-like effect at the hem.
The pants are darted at the waist, giving the loose-fitting pair an illusion of having panels. This creation is definitely not for the faint-hearted (faint-wardrobed?).
The pants and top have sold out, but you can browse the latest from Maison Martin Margiela at Shopbop and Barneys New York.
