The Met Gala isn’t your average red carpet event. It’s a high fashion event where the invited are expected to appear in avant-garde attire, to stand out, and to make an impression.

Every year, the craziness gets worse. Many take the costume theme too far, so there are often more people on the worst dressed list than the best dressed.

It’s pretty obvious though that even the celebrities in attendance want to take a breather from the stifling fashion scene. The next day, most of them opted to wear casual jeans.

See their startling change from red carpet glam to street style normcore:

1. Jennifer Lawrence

The actress wore a rather disappointing Christian Dior Spring 2015 Couture dress that she teamed up with Roger Vivier’s “Ondulation” sphere sandals.

It was all comfort for her the next day when she stepped out wearing a pair of black sweatpants, an open back Stella McCartney cashmere and silk blend sweater, a pair of Louis Leeman studded suede leather loafers, and a Coach “Tatum” studded tote.

2. Jaime King

The 36-year-old successfully flattered her baby bump in an orange Jason Wu for Hugo Boss gown.

The 24-year-old received a Twitter backlash after she posted a photo of herself with chopsticks in her hair.

She probably thought the adornment could cap off her Ralph Lauren green silk gown and Edie Parker dragon clutch to fit the night’s theme.

It was nice to see Footloose’s Sarah Jessica Parker looking more like her usual self the next day in a pair of grey pants and a slouchy top.

We don’t blame these ladies for the pressing need to dress down immediately after a big event like the Met Gala. The pressure to look great at the event can be tiresome.

It’s always nice to have a good pair of jeans to turn to when one needs to look and feel comfortable. Here are some great examples from Shopbop and Nordstrom:
