At fashion week, all sorts of craziness emerge. But once in a while, the craziness gives birth to genius sartorial creations that can also be translated to regular style and dressing. Take the print clashing trick, for instance.

A few years ago, wearing two prints in one outfit might make you look like a walking fashion faux pas. But these days, it’s embraced by style lovers for the unique and brazen flair it gives off.

On the other hand, it’s not an easy undertaking. Choosing your prints properly and making sure that they clash but blend at the same time is not for the faint-hearted.

Thankfully, the likes of fashion week front row favorite Olivia Palermo are there to school us to make this modern trick successful.

The 28-year-old socialite, who recently got married in an outfit nobody expected her to wear, attended the Elie Saab A/W 2014/2015 show wearing a black and white garb that is anything but boring.

Olivia wore a pair of skinny Banana Republic floral trousers and paired it with a Tibi printed vest top. Although both pieces are printed, the effect is not busy.

That’s largely due to the simple color palette. When doing print clashing, make sure the pieces share the same or similar colors for a cohesive effect.

Also, tie the look together with solid-printed outerwear just like what the fashion icon did here with her chic black blazer.
