How NOT to Wear Gladiator Sandals and Short Cutoff Overalls

We’re glad to see the overalls trend extend its reach well into the summer season, but Cara Santana just found a way to make it even more warm-weather-appropriate.

Out shopping for a house plant in the middle of the hot day yesterday, the 29-year-old actress and fashion blogger managed to stay cool in a striped yellow crop tee and cutoff short overalls. Yes, you read that right: short overalls, or shortalls, in short.

Now, we have no doubts about the lightness and airiness of Cara’s outfit, but we aren’t as sure about the versatility of her shortalls. It’s like cutting off the legs on overalls also severs its cool street style. And at least with overalls, you can wear the top part up or down, but with shortalls, you’re stuck with a look that’s always on the border of looking like a little kid’s getup.

We think the dated gladiator sandals Cara accessorized with contribute to our dislike for this look:

But when we looked for these shortalls, we also didn’t like how all of the models look like little girls in them:

Or maybe it’s because all of these models are young girls?

What’s your own verdict on short overalls  — are they fab or drab?
